Bush's Economic Stimulous Plan.
    #1191047 - 01/04/03 09:21 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

As a student of Economics, I am eagarly awating to hear what Bush is proposing. I will make an analysis on Tuesday when the real details are released. However, after reading what has been leaked, I am hardly optomistic. Anybody have any thoughts on the proposal thus far?

Bush is a dolt, his economic stimulus package will most likely reflect this. He plans to go to war with Iraq, how will this influence oil prices? What influence will the change in oil prices have on the overall economy? I'm betting they will in the very least negate any benefits to be realized by Bush's (largely) symbolic economic stimulus package.

I agree that the package is merely symbolic. It seems to be more of an attempt to quell the cries of the Democratic party concerning Bush's lack action on the economic front.

You bring up a good point concerning the price of oil, something I had not thought of.

Ill bet that the plan is FULL of plans that stimulate the the econemy but harm the environment...

Bush has pushed and pushed for plans to drill oil in protected areas and clear cut timber in national forests in the name of proffits..

So far he has been shot down on most of the individual attempts but if he hides them in a large proposal it can sail through without notice untill its too late...

Remember the push for drilling in the nature reserve in Alaska? He wanted to drill for oil right on 70% of a federal wildlife reserve, a place made that way by the hard work of people who care about the environment.

What was real shitty about the entire Idea is that right next to the reserve is the National Federal Oil Reserve lands which are 4 times the size of the wildlife reserve and holds an estimated 8 times the amount of oil, plus its already got the infastructures in place with buildings, roads, storage and pumps....

Go Bush Go...

Nah, from what I have read, the environment won't be touched. But yes, Bush doese have a poor outlook on environmentalism.

>>>clear cut timber in national forests in the name of proffits..

If they do logging then what's the point of having national forests for the people to camp in and enjoy?

Maybe it might not be a directly worded attack on the environment but Bush has already halted previously pased legislation for reduced emissions requirements on SUVs to give manufacturers more time to make and sell their gass guzzlers and stimulate the econemy.

I quote him as saying that he "will not be the one to tell consumers that they cannot buy the vehicle of their choice"..

Maybe I can get him to explain to my great grandchildren just why its unsafe for them to go outside and why the air is brown...

Lets not forget the water conservation efforts that Bush changed which ended up killing millions of Salmon in US rivers by diverting that water to farmers.. This one is a stickey situation but Clinton found a way to compromise and everyone agreed on an even ballance...

Then comes Bush and he gives into the farmers and the water levels droped and the salmon died... LOTS and LOTS of salmon died and the US Salmon industry will be hurt for at least a decade..

All that for some cheeper corn and soy...

The air quality was a hell of a lot worse when I was a kid than it is today. The states can (and have) taken steps to control emissions, California has the toughest emission standards in the world. Yes, even people who are making the most money off of oil don't want to breathe shitty air.

Families were losing their farms and their livelihood. Human families lost everything, their homes, their source of income and were forced to go begging or go on welfare. Clinton screwed the farmers in the Klamath basin royally, his administration broke promises made to these people back in the time of Roosevelt.
