The conduit for realization is surrender, and it is only through surrender that the abyss between self and selflessness is crossed.

People say what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we are seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our innermost being and reality, so that we actually fell the rapture of being alive.

When we commit ourselves to learning about life, we become increasingly sensitive to the motivations behind our actions. We begin to accept responsibility for the role we play in our conflicts and reactions. To understand and transcend our suffering is the purpose of a spiritual journey. We rarely appreciate the lessons suffering can impart because we spend so much time trying to avoid the pain. The little deaths that touch our lives --- the ending of a relationship, a fading dream, a lost hope, the daily disappointments --- take their toll in mental anguish. These small indicators are wake-up calls to pay more attention. Then, when physical death does arrive, we will have a conditioned readiness to fully explore our relationship to it.
