Good gun for a purse (sister needs one)

My sister recently got a job where she will be traveling a lot, with the potential of going to some pretty shady areas. She is going to be taking handgun lessons with the local gun club and is looking for a gun to carry with her when she travels.
I'm wondering what you guys would suggest for a small handgun that is decently accurate with a lot of stopping power. I was thinking snub nose .38 special, but I'm sure you guys have some better suggestions. Let's hear em'

I carry a Ruger SP101. It's a 5 shot snubby with a 2" barrel. Mine is a .357, your sister might want to get it in .38sp.

That is actually the gun I was thinking of. Can't go wrong.

The Taurus "Judge" is pretty cool. All the judges in Texas used to carry a similar model. Compact, packs a punch. Clicky

Yeah It's really small my grandpa had one. I like the "public defender" engraved on the top of the barrel too

I know this thread is pretty old, but to give you your answer, look at guns in .380 caliber or smaller.
For a purse gun for a chick personally I'd recommend a Beretta 950 Jetfire which is chambered for the .25 auto. It's a weak round but that's a sacrifice that has to be made.

And what were the factors influencing that suggestion?

It's only 10 ounces and is small enough to actually fit in most purses.
It has a light trigger pull and very little recoil, which makes it very easy to shoot.
It holds 9 rounds - plenty of firepower for any realistic self-defense situation, even if it is .25 auto.

I have the .22 minx and the .32 tomcat model berettas. they look just like that one.
they are great fucking guns. small and compact, great accuracy, and light to carry.
you also din't mention one of the facts this beretta is great for women. it has a TIP-UP barrel. the barrel has a button that makes it tip up and you can load one bullet into the barrel like that. then when you fire the gun, it automatically starts feeding in rounds from the magazine. my wife likes this because she wants the compacity of a semi auto but, she has a very hard time pulling the slide back to load the first round.

ive got the .380 keltec P3AT. its got a nice kick and fits in a desantis holster and in my pocket without it being known that it is a pistol. if i were to recommend a pistol for a purse, that would be it.

A purse is a bad place to carry a pistol unless it is made for it and has a holster built in. There is too much junk in a purse that can jam a pistol.

Knowing the way my sister shops, she'll find a designer purse with a gun holster in it.

So your sis will have a gun in her purse, so when someone takes it with a knife they will have a knife, purse, AND gun?

No, the point of having a purse with a gun in it is that she shoots them when they hold her up with a knife.

The pistol should be in a holster in side the waistband, not in her purse. A good purse snatcher will be halfway down the block before she realizes it's gone.
