In addition to Skryllz directions, I would recommend to rinse and drain the birdseed after the 24 hour soak.

Yeah my bad, I'm a little stoned right now, always rinse and drain. Drain for about a half an hour even if it doesn't seem like much water is coming out.

What do you use to drain? Would a cloth in a collander do? So the seed doesnt fall through yet drains good?

I just use a big plastic pasta strainer, is that a collander(I've always thought a collander were the strainers made of wire mesh)? Some seeds do fall through but you could either pick them up and throw them back in or just throw them away. A couple seeds won't make any difference.
