The reason the viels are hanging on is because there are fruiting cakes of diff ages, so I elected to keep the humidity 99%. One smell of them and you know, they smell just like cortinarius alboviolacious. swwet and sickly. Cubensis smell way diff, like a rancid agaricus bisporus. The potency is very high. 2 grams cause patterns on the walls, trails, and serious time lapse. I once ate 5.8 grams and lost about 3 hours. I was just catatonic. It was excrutiating honestly. The fresh ones taste so bad that one bite makes everyone throw up. I agree that they look like cubies, but thats because of the substrate. Disbelievers, prepare to be amazed!
Can we see some microscopy?
I would be highly interested.

Well based on macroscopic observations im still going to have to say that you have cultivated Psilocybe cubensis.
What substrate was used in your grow?

Sorry man, I don't mean to offend you, but those look like picture-perfect cubes. And your report on the potency seems like a bit more potent cubes. If someone proves me wrong, I will gladly accept my error. In the mean time, it's not nice to jack other people's threads.

why would it take a professional to ID? and why are you so adamant that it is some other species?

I want the concedence of a respected mycologist, which can only be made by personal ID. This is the first step. Someday everyone will say,"that guy, Paducah Ovoids, originated the idea of pf on ovoids." It's going to happen. I didn't say who's a mysologist to dispute you, I want a mycologist to look!
Dude. You're delusional. Look at the picture I posted. Do those look anything like the mushrooms you are growing?
Here's some more pictures of ovoids vs. cubes to drive home the point:
Ovoids:
    All courtesy of the psychedelicslug.
Cubensis:
Those two are both of the strain malabar. Notice the white warts on the caps and how the veil stretches with the cap as it matures? Notice how neither of those features are present on the ovoids, and also how the ovoids are much darker brown in color, less orange than the cubes?
You can think all you want, but if you're wrong, you're wrong.
Nice flush though!

Hi nightflyer,
Beautiful rhizomorphic mycelium on that block, it will be very interesting to see how your experiment goes, good luck
paducahovoids, your mushrooms are Psilocybe cubensis, I'm sorry you have been confused, maybe you mixed up your spore prints or something. As for using a microscope to identify them, you definitely don't need a scanning electron microscope, light microscopy will be fine and a magnification of 400x will be enough to see the cystidia, it will be easy to tell that it is P. cubensis.
I'm not saying it's not worth experimenting, it's just unfortunate that somehow your spores got mixed up, you should post your images in the Mushroom Cultivation Forum where all the P. cubensis cultivation images are posted, they look nice
The last nine images in your gallery look to be P. ovoideocystidiata collected from the wild, nice find!
Once again, good luck with your experiment nightflyer

paducahovoids, in the interest of settling the cubes vs ovoid debate, I would be interested to see you post your photos in the Hunt and ID forum. I think the Trusted Identifiers there would be an impartial panel of judges. Let's see what Alan Rockefeller has to say.

Nightflyer, I love your pics and project I'm rooting for you. I haven't had success indoors, outdoor beds do real well though. Keep it up man

those aren't cubes. they're not even mushrooms. they're figments of your imagination.
tiny, psychoactive...non-ovoideocystidic...figments.

The woodblock is outdoors now in the plastic tub (because we have dry weather at the moment) and still looks healthy, but no shrooms yet.

That's a picture of my "spawn tower" where I produce my woodchips spawn. I have produced more than 30 pounds of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata woodchips spawn and I will create an outdoor bed in May, using 100 kg woodchips (willow).
As you can see, the woodchips are slightly rotten. All woodlover Psilocybes I have worked with grow better on slightly rotten woodchips than on fresh cut woodchips.

That's the craziest thing I've ever seen! Looks like some sort of fungi space object. "Quick, deliver the rhizomorphic cube to the planet psilocybus, the fate of the universe is in your hands!"

That is looking amazing man, Keep it moist. Inski says it may take a whole year for the mycelium to fruit, As with Azzies. But don't give up.
"P. ovoideocystidiata is a woodlover that requires a long season to build up enough metabolites before fructification will occur, it will take a year or longer after inoculating wood chips before this species will fruit!" Quote from Inski
Your myc, tower is great they should do real well in an outdoor bed. If you can place it near a stream or pond, the water evaporation will help the mushrooms
