i was curious of the quart jar capacity of this pc. i read somewhere it will hold 10 quarts. is this full quart jars>>>???? so do u have to lay the top couple jars on there side>>? i'm getting one of these or a 16 quarts that will hold 7 quarts?? i think i would like the 23 if it can hold 10 quart jars , not like 8 quarts and 4 pints>>??

I think my Presto is 21qt and I can only fit 7 quart jars. The 23 qt job is taller and you can probably lay 3 more jars on their side, but I can't say for certain. I also have an old school Magic Seal(Montgomery Wards)that is slightly smaller than the Presto and it holds 7qt max. I like the Magic Seal better because it is a lot heavier and gets up to pressure 10+ minutes faster than the Presto.

thanks. i am gonna hit some thrift stores today and look around. i gotta get another. i'm tired of doing 7 quarts at a time. i need like 2 more and i would be able to cook enought spawn to use with my 50 gallon drum pasterizer. may still not be enough but sure would beat sitting around waiting on one pressure cooker to finish..

amazon usually has the best deal on these. I was wondering if anyone uses these with a hotplate, or if hotplates are even made tough enough to handle the weight.

wow thanks shrooomy. i emailed the company and asked them i will see what they say. yeah i have noticed amazon was a better deal. i will look there too. i think if u had a hot plate. if you could make a support level with the hotplate to hold more of the weight while the cooker just does touch the hot plate.

Another option is one of those freestanding propane stoves; I've seen some people here using them to heat the larger sized pressure cookers. I think they're really meant to be used outdoors, though.
