Fruiting in jars
    #1186029 - 01/02/03 08:01 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

If I had some colonized quart jars of wild bird seed wrapped in aluminum foil around the base and placed in a fruiting chamber, would I have to tip the jars for air exchange or would a bubbler be enough? Pins are growing

It will get really crowded in the jar and make harvest a bitch. Casing it would be a lot easier and probably better.

I agree. Casing would be the way to go. Yeilds will be much higher and in the long run you will be glad you cased.

i think i'd still hand fan vigorously once or twice a day, even with a bubbler, they are kinda weak, imo.

Yea, I know casing is the way to go. Actually, I have one going, but it is not doing well so far. I lost 3 quarts of spawn to one bad quart, (trich), which had contams on the inside that where not visible until I poured them out onto 3 quarts of good spawn @$#&*!! Had to toss it all out. Live and learn. :frown: With the last two jars I decided to case in the jar with 50/50 and try to get a couple of fruits for printing. The quart jars are about 1/2 full so there is about 3" from the casing layer to the top of the jar. I tip the jars 3-4 time a day to vent the CO2. I was just wondering if it was nessisary because I dont like to open the terrarium any more than is needed.

Thanks for the replies. AWG

Air exchange is CRUCIAL
Lysol is your friend.
Fruit out of the jars- the whole point is to harvest something/anything. THEN work on improving yeilds.
