BRF to inoculate chips
    #11871718 - 01/21/10 11:36 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I was wondering what peoples' experience with using BRF cakes to inoculate chips for outdoor beds is. I've read that you should use sawdust over seed because rodents and insects will dig though the bed to get to the seed. Since I don't have any saw dust I though that BRF would make a good alternative, seeing as it doesn't have any whole seeds in it for the rodents to go after.

In the past I've always made my beds using WBS, but in the past none of my beds have ever fruited... whether that is because I wasn't using large enough chips of the right type of wood or because I was using WBS is unknown. What I do know is that the beds and the spawn colonized very well, but when I spawned them to beds outside they seemed to just stop growing entirely.

Why not spawn to wood chips inside , then transfer those outside? I plan on doing  lots of sawdust spawn for outdoor beds using sawdust pellets.

That's what I meant... I want to use BRF cakes to spawn to chips indoors then use those colonized chips to spawn more chips outside in beds.
