If this is your first time I would just stay with straight cakes for at least the first flush. Casing will usually give you better overall results, but you also run a higher risk of contamination. After you see how the shrooms grow you may want to begin to case them right out of the jar.

buddy, ok USE PERLITE. It's damned foolproof. just dont oversaturate the perlite, and you're set for an evaporative surface area about 10 times greater than the surface area of the bottom of the pan. (Which means high humidity) all you have to do is make sure it is all well and sealed, and just fan it once a day.
