baking soda in casing
    #1186538 - 01/03/03 06:31 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I was wondering if I could use baking soda to bring the ph up in my peat moss for casings? I'll try it if nobody knows but would like some help deciding how much backing soda to put in.

acid will bring the ph DOWN, not UP!

pickling lime should be available in your supermarket. it is the same as hydrated lime.

pickling lime is lime used for making pickles. i saw it in the king soopers next to all the canning jars. if your store doesn't have canning jars, look for it in the baking goods lane with baking soda and stuff.

no, but hydrated lime is calcium hydroxide and pickling lime is calcium hydroxide. i'd check for additional ingredients, but if all it is is calcium hydroxide then they are the same.
