AmericanPsycho how could you? My atheist brother you just broke my heart in the chances of someone out there understanding the giant plot holes, you were the only one that had some logical ideas on why the movie was so shitty, but saying its BETTER THAN STAR WARS!?? BLASPHEMY!!!!  :emocry:

I have a lot of reasons.  the colours, 3D, loved the whole theme of the movie.  Maybe because I hate how our country spends so much on military as it grows deeper into debt and is corrupted by :money:  They would have just destroyed that planet like they did to earth if they weren't defeated.  They deserve to go back to earth and rot in the mess of their own creation.

I don't perceive "Eywa" to be a deity the way our religions do either.  To me it's only a evolutionary phenomenon and I liked that.

So watch Jarhead or something, its more to the point you're after. Avatar misses the message you're after by over stating ACTUAL "spiritual stuff" on one side of the equation. We are at war with the middle east exactly because they think they are as spiritual beings as the Na'vi, willing to die for their beliefs and holy land, except they aren't, they make up all that shit in their heads through repetition of nasty memes, and the Na'vi ACTUALLY were made of "spiritual stuff". Its too fucking confusing to have a solid message. Theres not even a real message in it if you ask me. The argument for drill, drill, drill is a different one when your talking about a species that has had every advantage that man hasn't regarding the easing of the internal clocks, aka religion and spirituality. There is no real argument when its animals vs special "miracle stuff" animals. Its silly and its smells ALOT like martyrdom. With no real evidence at all most of America vicariously put their lives on the line against insurmountable odds for basically astonishment and blue pussy.

"the continuity of nature was not going to permit one species on the planet to have miracle stuff in its brains when no other species did." - Dan Dennett describing Charles Darwins beliefs

At least Star Wars had the decency to equate "magic powers" to both sides. Constant push and pull of good and evil. Instead of being all emo and crying about how evil humans are for killing a stupid home tree. :stonedjerk:

this is stupid.  thats like saying "I already saw the outlaw josey wales, so no point in seeing kill bill or death wish or taken"
so many films all have the same plot.  calling avatar dances with wolves or pocahontas is just a new anti-fad fad which all you goons are hopping on.

Yes, so many films have the same plot.

For these films, I wait for the DVD release and either watch it on Netflix or buy it.

This is nothing new for me; why am I suddenly part of this "anti-fad fad" collaborative? More importantly, why am I a goon?

Nice trade rating. GTFO.

Maybe I liked it so much because I am already disgusted with our government and I wanted them to loose.  Say we put the spiritual stuff aside, the Na'vi still appreciated nature and made an effort to preserve it at least.  According to Jake in the movie they had already completely trashed the earth with no green left by 2144.  I didn't agree with them getting a chance at trashing another planet.

At the end before the final battle Jake is talking to that shiny tree asking for help when his woman comes up and says something like "Eywa doesn't take sides, only preserves the natural balance."

Maybe destruction of Pandora by the humans would have offset the natural balance. It could also just be a hook to make people all gooey on the insides.

I'm sure if the situation was reversed and an alien race was wantonly destroying Earth, people would get all gooey on the insides too.

From what we saw they had a harmonious life, which was being disrupted (no matter who is doing it)...most people recoil to that.

Best move ever, though? No way. Good visuals, plot was weak, lots of cliches, etc. but I still got some good out of it.

They would have destroyed Pandora because they had already done so to Earth.  And yea the Na'vi had a harmonious life with nature which is why jake chose their side.  Maybe if the Na'vi didn't exist and it was just those other creatures it wouldn't of been so bad to mine some unobtainium.  Unless the humans start to fully colonize it....

Not when those universes are governed by reasonable laws of physics and certain possibilities for EVERY creature that come into consciousness through evolution. I mean im sure there are some fucked up things with the Star Wars universe but at least becoming a Jedi/joining the Dark Side is possibility for every race, or at least Lucas made it appear that way.

We are just mammals struggling to be moral animals, the main big challenges we face are lying to our internal clocks and being moral within a system that has no signs of god. Like no other animal on the planet. If there is a solar system within your universe that is not struggling with these two issues then this universe is TOO unjust and WE, AS PRIMATES should feel offended and have no problem doing what we have been evolved to do: protect our selfish ass genes and use whatever resources are out there to make it happen the best it can and mildly comfortable.

Call me a bit "behind on the times", but is 3D tv even available yet?

Nvidia 3D glasses and compatible 3D monitors (120hz) have been out a year now which lets us play video games in 3D.  Mitsubishi has a few compatible 3D HDTV's as well.  We are only waiting for blu-ray to release their new format (Blu-Ray 3D).  Avatar will be the first one.

Only at first. Just like LCD monitors.
