stirring brf cakes
    #1185763 - 01/02/03 04:40 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

i was looking at my cakes, seeing growth on one side, and decided there must be a quicker way. i figured i could get a long skinny rod like a shish kabob, or something of that nature, sterilize it, stick it in the hole, and stir the fuck out of it.

would this work? has anyone ever done this?

no that doesn't sound like a very good idea It'll be best if you just let the cake colonize and not fucking it up. If you can't shake it a bit then just leave it be.

do you wanna stir up a cake inside the jar??? That cannot be happen. If you had a jar of seeds e.g. rye, you can shake the jar. But if you have a e.g. brf cake you cant, because the vermiculite and the flour are one and after boiling its a sticky thing. Additionally if u put something in there, i wanna say that you will get contams except if you work in front of a HEPA system, but thats out of the question i imagine (as you work with cakes).

Conclusion:
Cakes were invented because of their simplicity. If its gonna be complicated, then work with other teks, such as rye grain spawn which have better results.

Sounds like a bad idea. Mixing it up would also disturb the vermiculite layer on top which is a barrier against the contams. Without the dry vermiculite barrier your more suscepitable.

Sounds like a really bad plan...sorry
Just like the others have said...you would break the Verm contam barrier and would most likely get contams...the risk isn't worth it.

Part of this hobby is patience.
I know you don't wanna hear that...I didn't either. :smirk:

Sometimes jars colonize unevenly but in the end they usually end up catching up to the rest. I wouldn't mess with them. Just let them go and see what happens.
