Lasting effects of LSD/Shrooms (empathy)

Hi,
Some users of LSD/shrooms report a high empathy while tripping.
When you use LSD/shrooms often, you might have the effects in normal day life, like seeing patterns and stuff. But does that also include an increased empathy, and seeing stuff "clearly"?
In other words: Does the use of LSD/Shrooms increase the ability to sense other people over a long periode of time?

Yes most definitely. I think that is one of the primary "purposes" of psychedelics. When used properly and high enough doses in the right setting these experiences leave people with long lasting perspective changes and how they look at life.
Of course that is going to come with an increased sense of empathy, long after the trip has subsided. Think about it, Timothy Leary was always someone who advocated the claim that LSD and other psychedelics are like looking at the world through a microscope.
Basically what I'm saying is, psychedelics ability to increase awareness and thereby perception under the influence is something that remains after, and so you begin really "reading into people" more so than ever. It becomes easy to understand how a person must feel and translate emotion and so forth.
These are all things I have noticed anyway and something I believe many psychedelic users experience.

Yeah, but is the perception altered because people learned certain things during a trip, or because the way the subconcious recieves the reality is altered?

its because naive realism is removed.
people think they have the world figured out, trip, and suddenly become aware so much more is going on and never look at it the same, realizing that perception is everything.

There are some people who feel lots of empathy even before tripping, I know one of my friends is that way.
After tripping many times i feel that my own sense of empathy is strengthened, but it is still not as strong as my friend.
So, based upon that tiny sample size, I believe that tripping simply helps you see better, it doesn't 'alter reality' or anything.

Yes, I was definitely more empathetic or "open" for a long time after my first shroom trip.

I was naturally very empathetic, along with my father, but once I started using psilocybin I gained so much more even. I would have to say they will have these somewhat lasting effects on most everyone else also. If used enough they will change you permanently as I feel I have been.
