What do you think it means when everyone around you is talking about you indirectly? Talking about your thoughts, the images in your head, your hopes and dreams?
Can this be related to chakras in any way? I haven't found any explanation for this but it keeps coming up in my life every once in a while.

Do you mean you are projecting meaning onto random conversations?

Maybe. I'm sure I HAVE done that in the past. But sometimes things are just so beyond coincidence you have to wonder...
I want to give examples but my examples are all very personal and I'd rather not share them. I'll give one example. One time I was in the hospital and I was having a very scary experience. I felt like my life was in danger and I became very scared and images started appearing in my mind, of darkness, people dying, being chased by demons and spirits and I thought I was going through some sort of initiation thing. Two people were walking by the door to my room and one guy was telling the other something like "yeah, have you ever had this feeling that... you were being chased by something? And had images in your head. Or like an image of people having sex?"
I was afraid I was going to get really physically hurt by this big guy and that the nurses wouldn't stop him because we had gotten in a fight earlier in the day. He gets a phone call while I'm holding up in my room, and I'm still thinking this is some sort of initiation thing that I have to go through for the good of the world, and in his conversation he says "yeah, i'm going to have to go for a few minutes... (random conversation)... for the good of the world *laughs*"
And then this other guy walked up to these two other guys and was just like "hey guys, I just got into this fight in my room for about a minute and a half. It hurt a lot, but it wasn't so bad after that. I'm glad I went through with it" and I took this as a sign to accept the physical beating I was about to take. And by the way I am fairly sure this guy didn't even get in a fight. It sounded more like he was talking to me indirectly.
I have more examples, but they get more personal.

Interesting. Robert Moss proposes the idea of the "everyday oracle", that we can use daily events and conversations for divination and to find meaning to self issues. It rests on the idea that our worlds are responsive to our individual consciousness and beliefs. Perhaps your experiences are trying to drill this idea into you.

I am very open to this idea. Last summer I was mostly alone and was looking for some direction on where to go, what to do with my time, and I would get signs from people's conversations and inanimate things. That is a case however where I believe I was projecting meaning on to random things.

This is a common belief of paranoid schizophrenics but, as I'm sure you know, there isn't a clear line between schizophrenia and synchronicity.

I hate to scare you but this is pretty much schizophrenia that you're describing. When I have had psychotic breaks from cannabis use (believe me it happens) I was experiencing exactly what you're experiencing now - paranoid delusions, mystical motivations, and a unknown threat which leaves you anxious. When I went to hospital for it they repeatedly asked if I was picking up messages from television and media, if I thought people around me were all geniuses to pull off some perfect analysis of the thoughts I was having and then comply with each other to contain my actions. It's REALLY scary, because you lose control of your mind, and its forced to comply with your delusions in the end, because you're not sensing anything else.
Is it too much to suggest you go and see a psychiatrist? That's if it is ongoing and getting in the way of your life...

The first ethnographers described Shamans as schizophrenics. I think a schizo has trouble channeling their inherent gifts, and it effects them in a negative way.

No worries. I've been diagnosed schizophrenic and I see a psychiatrist currently. I just think there is something more going on than misfired chemicals in the brain. I've had three psychotic episodes and I still don't believe I am crazy, I think it's all a parallel reality or something. Or it just reveals how everything is an illusion.

Have you ever dived deeply into the subject of Shamanism? I have a few ebooks I could hook you up with.

It should probably also be mentioned that schizophrenia is a hopelessly wide category that encompasses a wide range of behaviors and etiologies. Some of the people whom we call schizophrenic may have had the opportunity to become adjusted to their unique talents if they were provided with the backing of a society and the existence of a shamanic role to provide purpose for their lives, but others have no necessary inherent 'gifts' or connection to shamanism... something can be wrong at the biochemical level that is not just a matter of nonconformity to modern society or inability to channel their talents.

Hmm I might know what you're onto; I was thinking about a teacher once, and she was thinking about me at the same time because there had been some problem in class that was my fault. Next thing I know, the elevator I board comes down with her in it, and, funnily enough or it might actually be a coincidence, we were wearing the same color of clothes. Just by looking at her and the way she looked up showed me she was thinking "synchronicity" too. Very cool...
Another time I was laying in bed, and every time I woke up the people in the other room talking were talking about exactly what was on my mind. The accuracy of the jolt that brings the two events together was such that it was almost computer-driven or it was perfectly setup for that moment, as if there were a big conspiracy where others didn't exist when I went to sleep. I like the idea that it just reveals it all to be illusion...

I couldn't find, but I recommend, "The World of Shamanism" by Roger Walsh and the classic ethnographic account by Mircea Eliade. Taking all into context will probably give you the most comprehensive picture.
Edit here are some DL links: http://english.grimoar.cz/?Loc=nam&Lng=2&Flt=shaman The "Way of the Shaman" by Harner is a great introduction.
