Honey
    #1184898 - 01/02/03 11:33 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I dont know exactly where I heard it, but ... If you add honey to your substrates, it can increase yields pretty substantually. Has anybody tried this? I think they recommended using 1 table spoon for a 1 pint BRF cake, but I was wondering if it'd work using like a cup or so of honey on a bulk straw grow, like, after you have put your spawned cake and the straw in you terrarium, if you poured about a cup or so of honey on the top, and let it seep into the rest of the substrate, if that'd work. I just wanna know if anybodys tried that, and if not, maybe someone would like to try it, I probably will as soon as I get my friggin spores, haha

---Peace---

substrates need to be light and airy...... pouring a syrup of any kind on a substrate would not work at all.. it would smother it and be asking for contams..... Now honey water on the other hand is a good medium to shoot spores into... you get a white cloudy mycelia and you suck that up with a syringe.Do a search for honey water teks

Straight honey is germicidal. Even at a 30% concentration I heard it still has those properties. If you poured it on straight it would kill it, the concentration too high.

What about if you used honey water as the water for the substrate? honey water has a good nutritional value, as mycos are able to grow in it, so it would make sense that putting honey in the water you add to the substrate would increase its nutritional value.

If you want to spice up your water for jars try squeezing some water from wet manure or fertilizer and using that instead of p[lain tap water in jars.. but i think honey would still be a bummer....in a substrate

According to the tek I read the best water for cakes would be-water from a pond or stream or "seeping from an organic compost heap possibly".
Hope this helps
