i never started out with cakes, went strait to casing, and tho buying all these cool gadgets and self automated chambers looks cool, is completely unessasary...
an average flush of 2 pint jars (millet) is roughly an ounce with 50/50, lime and oyster shell. then, just throw over seran wrap. intiate pinning with light and fanning 2 times a day. and bingo... let it go till time to harvest...
it really is that simple...

Ive seen them. Do you simply use the 3 gallon rubbermaid as a casing container and terrarium? I was thinking of doing the same but thought condensation would be a problem; Is it??. Looks good

I also like.. I have been hiting myself over the head many times with this question? Go casing or cake.. that is the question... I know everyone says newbies should stick to the cakes but casing looks actually a little easier to me..
But then again i have not grown shrooms.....!

exactly that. i use the container as the fruiting chamber. i put approx a half inch of verm on the bottom, about and inch of mycelium, and about a half inch of 50/50. in the first few days you will see condensation on the seran wrap but it does not effect it at all...

i as you felt casing would be better and easier. and i believe that it is a little more work. but the yield is terrific, and because of the ph balancing, i don't even worry about contams, they don't happen. but i can't say that is a fact all around. thats just for me.

You have bacterial blotch on the caps. Be sure to dry completely before consuming the mushrooms. peace, zero

i agree...mostly. i'd almost say casings are less work because they don't require as much attention, imho. certainly they require less humidity so that's not so much a worry.

Sounds perfect. Is the light in your room enough to induce pinning? It looks nice. Will regular width seran wrap cover the whole top or do you double up? Isint it a bitch to keep replacind the seran wrap? Ifd the shrooms get too big do you just leave them uncovered in your house? Or do you set them in some type of other terrarium? Very cool Tek I will be trying this one real soon

bedroom light is enough, and no, i put one 2 pieces on it, they stick together and it makes it into one big piece. and no, i don't uncover until they are picked. they push up on the seran wrap, but thats never been a problem because there is enough excess seran to keep it covered...doesn't hurt the shrooms either.

i do and understand and have known. the darker spots on the caps are caused from the moisture that condensates and drip. it normally is not a problem. but i did not fan during the holidays, cuz i went out of state to visit, s'all gravy on the biscuits =o)
