I PLOPPED THEM

Yep, i plopped my cakes out of the jars last night. First time ever. Wanted to buy a shroom kit but it seemed like a waste of money and i knew there had to be a shortcut of some sort and bam, i found this site. Anyway, i dont think there is any contam, i was afraid of cobweb. But it smelled sweet. It makes me think of mario bros. Dont ask me why it just does. Its a wonderful smell, and anyone, even if you never have seen or smelled shrooms, can tell what it is. Anyways, how long should i leave the light on everyday. Is 5 to 6 hours too much. The light is abiout 8 inches above the cakes which are in one of those huge tupperwares. It is a small 18 inch tube fluoro with a warm bulb in it. Thanks for reading.

It it smells pleasant and earthy it doesn't sound like you have contams. what are the temps? 5-6 hours of light isn't too much.

Good job! IMO, "Shroom Kits" are a waste of money. Your lighting also sounds fine, really anywhere from 1 - 12 hours a day will do.

Yep, there is a whole level of mushies. Anyways, i need to get a good thermometer to see the temp. I just dont want to get it too wet w/ all the moisture on the walls, is there any way around this? I am really excited and hope it works out. Thanks for the comments / replies. Good growing to you all.

Just get a cheap glass thermometer in the garden section of any major store. No need to worry about condensation. Fancy didgital thermometers with remote sensors are good for monitoring incubators, but if your fruiting chamber is transparent there is no need for a remote sensor.
