Paper stake Tek
    #1184021 - 01/02/03 05:04 AM (15 years, 5 months ago)

I tried something new & I think it worked out great.

I took a regular paper stake ( the kind that sits on your desk & holds notes). boiled it & also burned it clean.

I stuck stake in the cake so it would be suspended above the pertalite (all sides of the cake exposed)

out of 12 cakes all of them grew fruits from the bottom. except this one it's blowing up from all sides.

I'm going to make a new setup out of wood & shiskabob (sp) stakes for all my next cakes. I'll also do up some pic's on how i make it & the results.

Anyone else ever tried this?

haven't tried it myself, have heard of similar approaches. Not a bad idea, especially if you could get a collection of those stakes. I'd be a little concerned about the metal degrading over time (rust). Maybe find a hard (sterilizable) plastic set of stakes. You could even build a rack of the stakes that fit in your perlite chamber and is removable as a whole unit. Is a good step towards preventing contamination since the cakes aren't touching much surface area although they should be pretty damn contam reistant at this point anyway.

I've thought about hanging the cake's, but would have to alter my tub to open from the side..but still it would be pretty cool to have floating balls of mushie's....
