faning or airpump?

Peeps I must ask when you say we need air exchange in our fruiting chamber.. How much is needed.. REason is i work pretty much all day.. From about 9-6pm. I have been thinking just to get a little fish tank air pump for my babies once they are getting ready to fruit. I will be most likly using a rubermaid container or a little waste basket with perlite for my first cakes.. Question is can they survive with me doing the air exchange when i get home or should i have the pump instead.. if airpump is the way.. is the pump on all the time or is this on a timer.. Couple of times a day?

i'd guess they'd be fine while you are away. i use an air pump so i don't have to fan when i'm away OR when i'm not.

If you can't be home to fan, it may be worth the investment to go with an ultrasonic humidifier and a digital timer. I'm an investment banker which puts me out of the house for long hours during the day, and this is the method I use. And with good success. Good luck!

They would survive but would do better with a pump and bubbler setup. When I was doing cakes exclusively I had a bubbler running in my fruiting chamber all the time and I fanned at least once per day as well.

Hello EthnoJimmy,
just wondering if you have any pics of your setup?
Thank you,

I was thinking about trying an 80mm fan on low as an exhaust fan running continuously, and a small humidifier to keep the moisture levels reasonable. Thus, there would be constant air exchange, but hopefully they would not dry out.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

why not just run an aquarium pump into a bubbler set-up on a timer? i think 24/7 fanning is overkill and may actually be bad for fruits since they do like some CO2.

If you put the fan and humidifier on adjustable timers you could play with the settings until optimum conditions were achieved.

if your going to get a humidifier, why not just get a cool mist. I have used a cool mist before with no fanning...it has sufficed as a fresh air ciruclator as well as a humidifier.

i'd say if you're going to case, why use a humdifier at all? a bubbler is plenty of humidity for casings.

I personally have a pump on for about 8 hours a day. Someone else on the forum had this same setup and didn't have to fan once. I still fan once a day... just in case
