sounds like your jars got contaminated. Why did you use beans as the substrate?? You can't just pick any food item and make a substrate out of it!

Also, just read through the teks, and I think you'll get a better idea of what's going on.

That spongey feeling is a modified version of overlay to me in my opinion. Sounds like you overwatered it too. One other option is that the spores grew but did not mate. Without mating, the white growth just grows and grows and from experience it formed into a thick mass that never fruited. A good sign of them having mated is ropey string-like formations growing in your substrate. This isnt always the case, but its a good indicator non-the-less. Dont overwater! Use a little more spore solution to spread more spores in your jars. Also, a VERY simple recipie that still works for me is1/4 cup brown rice and 1/3 cup of water with a teaspoon full of vermiculite per 1/2 pint jar. Pressure cook for 1 hr at 15 psi and innoculate. Shake jars to break up cake. Leave the lids a little loose and store in a dark place . Leave alone for a week. After you see signs of growth, shake again and let grow through whole jar. Get a small container, break up fully-colonized cake and place in container, cover with 1/2 inch DAMP not wet vermiculite. Put 1 inch of wet perlite in your aquarium. Put the container in the aquarium on top of the perlite. Put a lid on the aquarium. If you see condensation on the sides, thats plenty of humidity. The only time you really need to spray is after a flush, and then only sparringly. Give the tank about 3-4 hours of light a day and you should see pinns in about two weeks or sooner. Hope this is helpful. Its very simple and when I have a stubburn strain with other complex recipies and growing ways,I usually use this recipie and I get fruits.
