Steam Irons and Ice Trays
    #1182688 - 01/01/03 08:12 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Today on my search for a humidifier I went to a thrift shop and found a steam iron, (you know, one of those things that irons your clothes with steam) well I bought it for a dollar fiddy and brought it home. I think it would work just as well as putting a fish tank heater in one container and setting your terrarium inside of that. It also works well as to warm it up. Any body know any good reasons why i shouldnt do this? Also i bought 10 ice trays and Im thinking about casing in them, i mean think about it, rather than throwing out a whole casing due to contams you could just get rid of 1 little block of casing, plus I think it would cuase the pins to form quicker due to faster colinization. Help me out

Edit: forgot to mention that im casing instead of doing cakes

okay, the steam iron i can't visualise, so why the hell not. in the incubator or terrarium? any contam risks? hell, for less than ?1 you can't go wrong (heheheh, 1 pound still woth more than 1 anything else!!)

as for the icetray casings, i'd give a provisional red light. it's like putting a dozen shot glasses in there! what network? what lump psychosis? what big shrooms?

good luck, superpsily!

Ok heres a visualization, an iron thats plastic and blows out hot steam.  Yeah I felt pretty stupid after posting that about the ice trays but i might try it any ways just for shits and giggles.  I can only leave the damn thing on for about 30 seconds though becuase it brings it up to 100% humidity real quick then i have to fan it out a little cause im doing casings and they dont need that much. Plus i think it gets maybe a little too hot, I really need to go buy a thermometer.  Thanks for the reply, I didnt think anyone gave a poo but I guess I was wrong.

Somebody Gives A Poo! hey hey!

Edit: in the terrarium

Seems like the steam iron would be hard to control. Good score on the price though. I'd use it to pasturize poo. Get a cool mist humidifier to adjust your terarium Rh.

The steam iron would be very hard to control as AVG said. Plus it would probably get too hot. If you use the ice cube trays you will get some very small fruit.
