i had a teacher last semester that was planning on changing books, but she was cool enough not to switch books until after buy back. very cool of her!

but something definately needs to be done about the cost. it is fucking retarded.

i remember 1 year the company doing the buyback had a big box for donating books to africa. they ended up buying back 2 of my 6 books and recomended i donate the rest. i said word for word "what the fuck do they need with an american history book in africa" why the hell would they send them over seas when there are still schools here using them! wtf give them to starving american college students!

they totaly rape you when they sell you the book but when they buy em back it feels like there dsysb

well anyway thats my rant for the day.

hahaha wait almost forgot its kinda funny. my old roomate would walk around all year picking up random books and saved them for buy back. the son of a bitch had like 20 books 1 semester.
its funny but realy fucked up. i don't have the best morals but i don't think i could ever steal from a college student.

Two things I do about the cost, pirate teh books and buy them from oversees (dealoz.com).  The people responsible for outrageous prices are people who pay outrageous prices.

As far as I know, professors are required to tell the bookstore which textbook they require. So I'd imagine if there were any backroom deals, it'd be between professors and authors. I think the reason textbooks charge so much, is because they're just going with market costs.

yeah...unless your professors is requiring you to get a book that they wrote. that's what really annoys the fuck out of me, because then you know that you are not only paying them for tuition, but also giving your prof a fucking royalty fee on top of that.

i only bought 2 books this semester for all 5 of my classes. O chem and I/O psych. fuck that system.

That's very fucked up.  I thought about stealing from the bookstore, but never really seriously planned it or anything.

lol...we had someone at our school use some of their webspace to make a site that was ebayish, and everyone would post their books on there and trade/get for really cheap, it got quite large, tot he point it was easy to find all your books for 20% the price of the bookstore, about a year after it got that good, it got shutdown...was some fucking bullshit because the bookstore was all butthurtz that they could no longer sell a book to a student for 119 used, buy it back for 35, then sell it again next year for 119....

peace

I have no problem paying jacked up prices, cuz I always resell my books on Amazon and make back 80-90%. Keep in mind, I don't highlight or dogear my textbooks.

So, $600 in at the start of the semester, maybe $500 at the end when I sell them all.

People who sell their books back to campus are chumps. You only get like 25% of what you paid for.

I just one of my books in today - it was the cheapest one online I could find - $84. Ended up having a massive coffee stain that made all the pages stick together at the bottom corner lawl.

Damn college books.

Did you know about the coffee stain prior to purchase?

If not, that truly sucks. I'm OCD/extremely anal about all my books.

If there's even a line of highlighting, I get pissed.

No, the sales ad just said something along the lines of "corner ware" oh well.  I guess thats what happens when you buy the cheapest.  Hopefully I will be able to sell it back to bookholders or something when the semesters over.  Used books is a gamble sometimes you get great ones, other times not so much.

Actually, you could probably return it. Big difference between "corner ware" and a huge coffee stain that makes pages stick together.

If you care enough, you could prob get a return and buy another book in better quality(e.g. "Very Good"). Then again, I'm just crazy about my books, I don't know if you care.

No I don't have any care/connection to my books.  As long as I can sell them back for a reasonable price, which is a big possibility at this new bookholders store I've been using. They usually buy books back for a good price, not 37 cents like the others, unless its an outdated edition.

I've been renting my books from chegg.com, it's not always the cheapest but in general I've been saving boat loads of money.  My books this semester were $30 a piece and the shipping/packaging to send them back is free

Ahh, the upper division books are either nonexistent or $60 a piece.
