Unidentified Ethnogen (pics)
    #1182745 - 01/01/03 10:56 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I went to Puerto Rico for the break, and on one of the islands there was this crazy looking tree - so I asked a local what he knew of it - as fate would have it he told me that it is a very strong ethnogen. He spoke of the native indians who would break open the pods get the hairs smoldering and then inhale the vapors by sticking the pods over their mouths to achieve the desired effects. Now, please help me identify what this plant is - I looked much online but can't find anything in erowid or the like. Thanks.

The branches which contained the pods were hollowed - it seems they grow green - and gradually become solid woody structure.

The tree looks rather familiar. I know i've seen those pods before, but they were not connected with any etheogenic value when i had seen them. As for any sort of name is a total mystery to me.

I'm avidly researching as to what the hell that tree is. Hopefully i can report back with an answer. And some information.

I ripped out the hairs and took them with me - only about half a pods worth though, because i didn't want any issues through customs.

I havn't smoked the hairs yet incase the man was simply ignorant - and they'd kill me.. i don't smoking that much of anything could kill me.. but better safe than sorry - I got like .2g of dried hairs.

Looking for the exact tree that it is online - or in field guides, which i have already done to a certain extent is like grabbing for a bong in the dark.. but i suppose i'll look again when i have some time later.

I believe you're right. Could be Kola nut.

this is definately not a kola nut.

Iif you click on the pictures, you will easily see that the stringy substance in the pod is in no way related to the innards of a kola nut, much less is it anything at all like a nut.

If you examine the leaves, you will also see a distinct difference in shape.

I'd say it's a relative of the Cacao Bean and the Kola Nut
