Low Yields
    #1182570 - 01/01/03 06:21 AM (22 years, 21 days ago)

I recently started a P. cubensis grow w/ BRF. The strain was EQ. I let some sit 2 weeks before birthing and birthed the others right away. I dunked some of them and left the others undunked. Heres the predicament though: I would fan about 4x a day, I used perlite for humidity, and I gave 2+ hours of light a day, but the yield from the first flush was really low. I ended up with about 1/4oz. from 5 cakes. Check out the pic of 2 dunked cakes:

The pin on the cake on the left is now gone, as I fanned it too hard and it fell over. My main concern is the low yields, about 7g dry from 5 cakes! Can anyone help me or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Try horse dung. It's really easy to work and you don't need a pressure cooker. Just spawn your brf cakes to the dung. Case with Coir and oyster shell.

have you ever tried casing before? i have a friend who has had the same problems with low yields on cakes. after casing, his yield was greater. imo cakes just are to unreliable as far as flushes are concerned. maybe the straw tek could help you out.

you never know, maybe your next flushes will be better!
my first cakes produced 1-2g on their first flushes! but i kept on reading and improving my skills and now i harvested yesterday one of my cake's first flush and it was up to 50-55g fresh:-) and it was the first flush

just keep reading to improve your skills or try to case. i made my first 2 casings a few weeks ago (it was extremely easy) and now they both pin!!!! and as i can see the pinset rocks

A actually did make a casing. Its in the incubator right now. I'm just concerned that all my grows using cakes might end up this way.

cakes imo are good to start out with just to get the hang of what youre doing, for better yields, more even pinsets, etc, casing is the way to go. for bigger yields, spawning will take you a long way also. read that post about about "differences"
