How Many People Have Acheived Enlightenment?
    #11824219 - 01/13/10 06:42 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

How difficult is it? Buddha did it in a few years...Seems like there would be more enlightened ones if it was so easy...

I'm enlightened. I didn't think that it was very difficult at all.

I would think that nobody could ever really achieve a constant state of enlightenment..sure you'll have moments...to become awake...but I think that enlightenment may just be a continuing process..never fully ending but never really beginning. And to be honest..If enlightment could be described, that which you call enlightenment would not be worth pursuing!

I mean from what I understand enlightenment is the permanent activation of the 8th chakra and once you die (you get sent there on death regardless) but only if you are already there do you stay there and end the re-birth cycle of reincarnation...

So how can we behaviorally differentiate between someone who's permanently activated their 8th chakra and someone who hasn't?

If death exists, and we stop thinking when we die, (both bold assumptions made in ignorance) then yes.

Yeah that doesn't seem intuitive; IMO enlightenment would be a state achieved while still living.  I like the ceasing all thoughts idea, although isn't enlightenment supposed to grant wisdom?  If so, what wisdom does not having any thoughts grant?

the suffis used light as a symbol, as the buddhists, probably hindus, probably the greeks,

why is light a universal symbol? who can illuminate this for me? Or perhaps you would rather elucidate?

Is dreaming to lucid dreaming as living is to enlightened living?

I think you may be using thought more broadly than I am... I can conceive of halting all thought and still being in extreme pain.

At any rate if we're talking about ceasing all mental activity I think the only way to do this would be death and that doesn't sound too desirable.  I want to end hate, worry and all other suffering but not at the expense of love, curiosity and happiness.

No one is enlightened.  Everyone is enlightened.

If those words aren't contradictory to you, you could be enlightened.  Because if you know what enlightenment means, you will understand why they cannot be contradictory.
