how can I download torrent safely without being tracked? Tips, tricks, links and sites would be good. I'm using azureus and don't have to much in the way of computer skills. Sorry it short and sharp still finding it hard to type after my crash

Hit a wifi hotspot or use your neighbor's wireless. That's the only real way to stay safe.

I've downloaded torrents, used p2p since Napster first appeared and nothing has ever happened to me. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Run your p2p apps on another server, preferably in some other country. Download your ill gotten gains via scp.
Some people set up an unauthorized server at their workplace.
I don't torrent much but when I do I run it on a server in Texas. There are a lot of people running torrents on there so its unclear what would happen if it was busted.

Peerguardian or vidalia bundle
-------------------- Funny story, this whole "world" that we know everything about, well, that's all good and well, but we know nothing about the rest of that vast everything we call the universe.
Everything I say is heresay. All fiction for a fictional character. Rule yourself, let no one else rule you. Down with government, and up with responsibility.

Not sure how peerguardian works or how effective it is - I have heard that it is not effective.
But Vidalia sounds like a bad way to do it - Tor is extremely slow, and its not fair to burden the tor network with gigs of movies and stuff like that. There are people in hiding that really need Tor.
One thing that has always worked for me is not downloading the type of stuff they are looking for. People get popped downloading Britney Spears or some other hot RIAA affiliated pop artist, but no one ever gets in trouble for downloading obscure techno music or old movies.

This sounds more like what I want.
I don't download much, is it going to be an ass to use? any other info would be good. my friends 5 year old boy knows more about computers than me.

"Even though this has been said elsewhere, PLEASE don’t run peer-to-peer download data through Tor as it can’t handle the network traffic. If people continue to do this then Tor will start banning such traffic which will badly impact legitimate use (as indicated below)."

1) ssh is a secure shell, its remotely logging into a computer, and encrypts all commands sent to it.
2) You probably don't have to compile, and could just use the binary and transfer it over with scp. Also, don't use azureus, much better clients out there, if running on a remote server that is unix based, use rTorrent, if its windows, use uTorrent.
4) Scp is just like FTP, only encrypted.

NO ... its simple use a private tracker. i have been rapeing the web on my private tracker for over a year and uploading tons of movies and music. never a problem. since its private its invite only. shoot me your email in a pm and ill send you an invite. this site is great btw but it requires you seed your finished downloads or you will be banned.

I believe private trackers are usually safer than public if I'm not mistaken.

1) wifi 2) private VPN 3) seedbox (d/l to ur 100/100 seed box, then FTP to yourself at blazing speed. also great for rising the ranks in private ratio sites) http://filesharefreak.com/2009/01/15/10-really-cheap-seedboxes-that-anyone-can-afford/ 4) unlimited newsgroup account for $6-12/mth w/SSL and newsleecher (safest method if worried no way to trace your downloads) 5) some sort of encryption method that probably won't work

Do you, or does anyone, have a guide on how to do this? I've looked into it before and frankly I didn't have a clue what I was doing. I got an SSH account but from that point on...fell. on. my. a$$.
Can anyone post a link?
