Habitat: Found on the side of a dead tree, four or five others located nearby
Gills: brown and white stripes
Stem: no stem, very thick
.
Spore print color: brownish

Bruising: no bruising seen
Other information: almost hard to remove from tree, this is probably nothing anyway

Nothing active, but you may have a Turkey Tail, Trametes versicolor.
If that is what it is, it makes a healthy tea.
It may be something closely related though.

Trametes versicolor probably. Spore print should be white.

Are you sure the spore print was brownish? It should be white to yellowish for T. versicolor.

It's like someone asking if a palm frond is an mj bud. The reality is though that there are some RETARDED people that ask for IDs thinking they might have something active when it's totally obvious to anyone with half a brain that's ever been to this site that they don't.

Maybe you guys missed the part of his post where he said:

That comment led me to believe he does not know much about mycology like the rest of us do, and wasn't sure of it's activity. Not everyone on here knows as much as us, and most members are only interested in actives. I personally study all fungi, and would rather find Dentinum repandum before Psilocybe Cyanescens.
Sorry for trying to help the guy out by confirming his thoughts. I deserved to be flamed 100%.

Did you ever make any tea? I have them growing all over my yard and plan on making a tea very soon.

He never asked about activity, never, not even once. 1 Quick google search will reveal that there are no KNOWN active polypores.
now if he asked "are dey da majik 1's?" go ahead and say "not active".

The plain simple fact that most people that have been involved in these threads for years KNOW, is that most(not all)people looking for id's are in fact hoping to find active mushrooms. I see at least 10 bunk I'd requests for lbms a day. That's relative to maybe 1-2 legit requests. The shroomery is here as a resource for knowledge in all aspects of mycology.

What did you think he meant by "This is probably nothing anyway"?
I was trying to be helpful, and you are just whining about dumb shit. Enjoy your low rating for complaining about someone trying to help.
