Alright well ive been readin up on the Ryche Hawk method of making substrate and it says to steep the birdseed, I dont get wat this means, and how much water would i need to use to do this?

Doesnt matter. Enough so that the millet or whatever is completely submerged.

in my first attempt with hawks birdseed i slow-boiled for 1/2 hour. had some success and some contamination. my second try i soaked the seed for 18 hours before mixing in the other ingredients. no contaminants on the second try with all other conditions identical. i also noticed how much my birdseed volume increased after soaking up plenty of water. as stated in his recipe you must pressure cook or autoclave or you will be destined to fail.

Yeah steam sterilizing with boiling water cant get much hotter than 100*C so a pressure cooker is needed. You may wonder why you dont need a PC for brf/verm. The answer is that millet harbors much more hardy contams than brown rice.
