Dried Cyanescens Help
    #11816675 - 01/12/10 07:27 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Well, now that the season is over and i can't pick and mushrooms, I had to resort to buying some. I was going to buy a half of cubes for 90, which is a little steep for me, so when the opportunity came up to buy a half of cyanescens for 75 i jumped on it. So I got the shrooms, but they look a little suspect. I have never seen dried cyans, only wet. When I got these they looked a little iffy, and there was no clear blue bruising. I know it is hard to I.D. dried mushies, but I would appreciate all your guys' help in figuring out if these are legit!

You have gourmet mushrooms, probably Pleurotus ostreatus.

0% chance that they are psychoactive due to the decurrant gill attachment.  There are no active species that have decurrant gills.

90 for a half is too much, you should be able to get an oz for that price.  75 for a half of cyans is ok, but only if they are real.

You need to ask for your money back.

Confront the dealer with confidence.  He knows they are bunk and so do you.

There are no active mushrooms that look anything like that.

huh...It's been a few years since I've seen cubies. Last time I saw those was 6 years ago when a friend showed me some smelly ones

turns out she bought them for 25 an 1/8th, enough for 2 people (I kinda thought that was the going rate for years)

anyway, water is weight, and it turns out the dealer purposely didn't dry them enough, and you can guess the rest

and for the non scaly inclined, how many 'average size cyans' would make a half for 75?...75 cyans?

20 years of picking and I never once had a scale..that's the one thing I couldn't translate for ya

btw, yeah, those pics aren;t dried cyans - no way--- I thought they were dried chanterelles at first, but they're probably some type of oyster, like Alan said

properly dried cyans look like this, btw

You might consider spending that money on the materials necessary to grow your own. No questionable shrooms, no liars to deal with and you could end up with pounds of mushrooms in the end for the price of a dozen trips.

The real scary thing about these shady shroom dealers is the ones passing out poisonous ones...

SO much easier to grow in the end.

Yup another case of the back market being more dangerous then the drug.

Here's something to think about... I wonder where this guy is from.  I would automatically be suspect if someone offered me cyans well outside their growing range.  Bunkness
