I wasn't able to play all the way through ME1... I was stuck on some remote planet with a fatal glitch. every time I tried playing the game, it would crash my box... i started 3 different games... the first one I got stuck because I wasn't a soldier class and needed WAY more firepower than we had, second one... I don't remember what happened, and third always crashed.
Looking at my buddy playing ME2 for a couple minutes, though, REALLY makes me want to buy it!

I started playing it a few days ago. Im not sure I like it. I never played ME1.
So far, ME2 seems to revolve more around a story and cut scenes than gameplay. I hate games like that, if I wanted to watch a show I would watch a show - I want to play a game, not watch cut scenes.
Ill play it a bit more this weekend and see how it goes.

Well it is an RPG so story is a main part of the game. Could it be that you aren't enjoying the game because you are totally lost about what is going on? I still haven't played ME2, I am playing through the first one again this weekend before starting the sequel.
I seem to remember the combat being enjoyable in the first one, and they have improved upon it a lot this time around from what I hear

Well I like RPGs in general very much. From NES Dragon Warrior, to Chrono Trigger, to Fallout. None of those really have extended cut scenes where you just sit and watch. I remember Final Fantasy X was like that and I just couldnt take it, skipping past cut scene after cut scene waiting for gameplay.
I did watch that a video about ME 1. Im gonna go home and play some now, hopefully there is a little more gameplay sprinkled among the cut scenes.

Just got it, love it! I LIKED ME1, didnt love. It had a bunch of flaws, but the story was great, I felt like I was "German Shepard" (thought I was being whitty with that one). Its fun so far. I love being a renegade, makes me feel like a total bad ass!
2 complaints
1. I am playing on a 19 inch tube TV, and the text is really hard to read. Im sure its fine on an HDTV though.
2. Ammo.... really? One of the things I liked about ME1 was unlimited ammo, only overheating. What if I run out of ammo with all guns? game over?
I would definitely rate it a 9/10 (based on about 5 hours of gameplay.)

The 2nd one looks incredible.
I actually am not following most of the latest trailers very closely. I want to be surprised when it comes out.

Anyone else hyped for ME 2?
i've been immersed in this game lately... spending little time after work doing anything at all.. its basically how ive spent my last few free afternoons
i'm now excited to not have plans with friends lol..
i restarted 15 hrs into the game thou, to a do a different path.. kinda realize you HAVE to play it more than 2 times. right now i'm responding to situations as i would.. next i'll be completely renegade and then completely paragon
real fun, this game.

1. yeah on my 40' high def its pretty damn clear 2. for ammo, i did a soldier character this time around so i focus on the machine gun... had a complaint on ammo for awihle (had to use the sniper and pistol a lot more and a shotgun rarely) '
but now i like trying out each gun in proper strategic situations and i find i completely dominate in combat. killed a geth collosus in record time (and the thresher maw? piece of cake).
though i just got a machine gun that has a good 600 bullets and 80 round clips so... no complaint anymore.
theres so many ways to play it, i cant wait to try out other classes, sexes and fiddle with the good/bad system.

I just beat it a little bit ago.
I wasn't racing through the game or anything either. I took my time gaining every characters loyalty, gathering resources, completing side quests, etc. I couldn't pry myself away from this game.
...I have a lot of homework to catch up on.

i love the game so much. only thing i have to say is its not as customizable as the first one, as in theres no inventory and your not constantly picking up things and changing all of your equipment. i kinda like that.

The first mass effect was incredible. Anything made by bioware is going to be an incredible game and well worth the money.

What is the ammo situation like in this game? Are you always feeling a little low, or is there so much you don't even have to worry about it. And how does limited ammo work with all the different types of ammo? Will you get like 10 radioactive round here and 10 hammerhead rounds there, or do you just pick up standard unlabeled bullets?
I just played ME for like 7 straight hours yesterday to refresh myself on the story and to create a new character, I can't wait to play the new one.

Technically, it's not ammo. You pick up "thermal clips" to pop into your gun to prevent overheating. It's Geth technology that apparently the rest of the universe adopted between the events of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. It does however function exactly like ammo.
If you are using a sniper rifle, then you will find sniper rifle clips when you kill an enemy, if you are using a heavy pistol, then you'll find heavy pistol clips, etc. The only "ammo" that's somewhat difficult to find is for the heavy weapons. Which is a good thing otherwise the game wouldn't be much of a challenge.
The type of bullets you shoot actually depends on where you allocate your points as you level up. I didn't play a soldier class, so I didn't have access to different types of rounds. But the more weapon oriented classes can choose from a few different types of ammo to specialize in as you level.
This system seemed a little weird at first, but I understand why it was implemented. I just switched back and forth between the sniper rifle and the submachine gun and I never had to worry about ammo.

Thanks for explaining all of that. I think I am going to play as an adept so I doubt they get specialized ammo. I guess I will have to get my fill of melting people with toxic rounds in ME1

Being an adept was awesome. That's the same class I played. I focused on singularity, warp, throw, and slam. It's fun finding different combinations to use against your enemies. For example, hitting them with a singularity field so 2 or 3 of them become locked in place hovering in the air, then using "throw" and watching them all go flying and bouncing off the walls to their doom.
It's cool too how if an enemy is behind cover you can keep him targeted, but aim above him, or to the side of him, and the biotic power will curve into him. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you get good at it, it makes cover practically useless for the enemy.

Hmmm, I was planning on playing as a vanguard for that charge ability but the adept sounds pretty schweet too. If you import a character is he locked into the class you used in ME1?

Ya I saw a video with the curving biotics and it looks so fun to play. At first I was scared to be an adept because of lack of firepower in ME1, but now that they can use SMG's that should not be an issue.
I think the biotics are amazing, I don't know how someone could play a soldier class; I think I would fall asleep
ME has to be one of my favorite series ever
Shooting/rpg + Space =
I forgot how amazing the npc interactions are in this game, its like I am watching a movie
