new to casing
    #1181431 - 12/31/02 09:15 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

my first attempt at casing seems to be a failure. had to go to the midwest for over a week three days after placing casings (50/50 from fresh ground pf cakes) into incubator at 82f. incubated for 14 days total. in the terrarium now at 72f and 85rh. i may have overlay. will send pics as soon as i find my camera. my question is given the following conditions what is an estimated time frame for my casings to begin fruiting - standard pftek with fresh ground rice, fully colonized in 14 days; cased with aseptic technique 50/50; left for 14 days incubating as mentioned above. thanks for any 411 and thanks for the welcome. looking forward to all the site has to offer, feeling stupid for not signing up sooner

how thick was your casing layer? i made my first one too thick and it failed.

personally, i see no reason to grind cakes before casing.

my first casings (50/50+) were showing mycelium in about 5 to 7 days, moved to fruiting chamber and fruited about 5 days later. standard brown rice PF tek cakes cut in half and cased with a casing layer about 1/3 the thickness of the cake halves.

You might have overlay for letting it incubate for so long. If it looks like the pics you should deep scratch and then fruit.
