20 straw bags ready to go need som help
    #11811888 - 01/11/10 10:34 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

years ago in a galaxy far far away, when my myco-jedi skillz where on par, i could remember these little details...
So i don't have a fancy setup/green house, and i've heard casings are more than a pain in the ass the is worth.
apparently you aren't supposed to use coir anymore, so any suggestions on what i should do?
I'm using autoclavable spawn bags, minus the filter patch, with pasteurized straw inocculated with maz and B+.
any help is appriciated, thanx.....

Coir is great to use and works well. Manure is great to but its best to use a combination of things i like using this recipe

60% Manure
30% Verm
10% Gypsum

I would just innoc up some grain jars then spawn them to the mixture I stated above. Do a mini mono or a mono tub or trays. all these methods require only a tote and some perlite.

Are you planing on inoculating straw with spores in a bag that has no GE port?? that does not sound like a good idea

How would you prepare that mix? Do you just mix the manure, verm, and gypsum or is there some sort of procedure oh how to pasteurize it? I'm new to this so I would really appreciate any help.

First put the verm in a bowl then add the gypsum then add the manure mix it realllly well then add water get it to field capacity let it sit for 10 min them check to see if its still at field capacity. now load it into jars. Put your jars into a PC and fill the PC 2/3 the way up the jars with COLD water. Stick a meat thermometer into one of the jars. Now crank on the burner on high, the water will boil. Wait till the thermometer read 140 now cut off the heat. The whole point is to hold the temps between 140-160 for 1 hour. After the burner is turned off the thermometer should continue to climb you might have to turn the burner back on during the whole hour to keep it between 140-160.

Field capacity= Grab a hand full of the Sub and squeeze it hard, there should be a very little stream of water that comes out then turns into a few droplets quickly. Thats field capacity

thanx shea25.
sorry i should of clarafied, the bags are already done, the straw is already white as snow and inoculated with WBS who in turn was inoculated from LC. So should I Case with the above formula?
Also it's almost imposible to find Verm anymore...
Any suggestions as to an alternative wether it be for casing or anything else that verm would be applied to?

Cut some slits in the plastic bag so the fruits have a way to grow and use it as a straw log.  Casing straw is of little to no benefit.
