What are you giving up for 2003?
    #1181378 - 12/31/02 06:54 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

No, I don't mean vodka or DXM or Cheeze-Puffs. What attitudes are you willing to relinquish that no longer work for you?

2002 was a bad year for me in most every area and I made it much worse by focusing on the negatives.

For 2003 I will give up:

1. The need for people to feel sorry for me when things go awry.
2. Pretending that I am powerless to change things.

(add to the list and when finished we will say a prayer and burn the list in a virtual incinerator thus freeing us from our fears and neurosis - in theory )

Im planning on converting to Zen Buddhism, and changing my outlook, attitudes, etc. to fit with the philosophy of the Dhammapada (not clinging to things, resisting temptation, and treating others as I would have them treat myself).

For 2003 I will work on letting the reigns go of my ego,  and just keep faith in the flow.

Nature will put me where I am needed.

Magic is not effective in theory, only in practice with conviction of intent.

for 2003 i Am giving up, period.

2002 has been a big wasted time for me.
and for many of us, there is little time left to be wasted.

so the Question i ask myself is:

Will you spend the rest of your short life tossing around in your warm bed of Dream smoke,
bouncing from one tragedy to another with all your pleasure Seeking?

Or

Will you have the stength to Wake Up to the cold morning of sobriety and mindfulness,
ready to live and breath in a new way Found between the pillars of suffering and bliss?

one Way is Death
one Way is Destiny.

(i) Decide.

Nice thread Swami. A little off topic, but nice.

I can't think of any attitudes to give up but I may try to give up verbs.

I'm sure it will be interesting.

Happy New Year my dear friend.

I need to stop dwelling on Americas facist, imperialistic ways. I wish to stop eating meat, continue on my spiritual path, read more books, get better at the piano and the guitar. I would like to go camping more often, maybe travel. Stop dwelling on the negative. My one big wish is to keep my clean bill of health. Cool post Swami, I don't think its that off-topic.

I'm giving up the attitude that comes with cocaine use. Last night I picked up a ball and after the night, had the worst crash of my life.

I think I've reached the point of too close to addiction or possibly even psychological addiction, so I am giving up my destructive attitude towards cocaine.

I'm giving up my crush, as it is hopeless.

also ciggerettes.

Same here.

I also need a change period. I'm so sick of waiting for my own personal freedom away form my parents. I need to just go. It's really not that easy, but 'll give up school for a while and get a job. Not that I want to, but it beats living on this working ranch.

I'm going to give up proscrastinating, probably sometime before the end of the 2003.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

GIving up on putting som uch imprtance on social conceptions of coolness or whatever. GIving up on red meat. Giving up on liquer of all kinds. Giving up on procastination to some extent, actually going thru with ideas and goals. GOing to finally put my ideas into action, really get into judo, go to LA , etc. just accepting peace and right thinking. Fortunatly this post is written on new years EVE so im rather drunk on the above liquers.

I don't make New Year's Resolutions - I find that waiting until New Years to take care of one's problems is not a wise thing to do.
