Sphongle Album Review
    #11806464 - 01/11/10 05:50 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

So, looking around on amazon I found a great review of a sphonlge CD that is perfect for decribing why it sucks.

This is an immaculately mixed and engineered album that demonstrates the art of the DJ at its best. Grooves and hooks blend, bend, mix, fade, grow, and change with great smoothness. A good 20 minutes of this is a vigorous trip that works well as background for running and jogging or biking. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? I'd like hooks that are memorable for themselves and not because of the way they are processed. I wouldn't mind a melody or two somewhere in this Rube Goldbergian inventiveness. Far too much of this sounds like pointless meandering - the formula is to find a beat/groove, play for two minutes and switch to another one before you get bored. Well, that ends up becoming like channel surfing with a remote in your hand - yes, it changes a lot and quickly, but what's the point when there isn't anything on worth watching? Shpongle are great producers who need someone who knows their way around a melody or two.

I like melodic music, stuff to groove too, and well, they dont do that.

Are you implying that the Shpongle guys are Shroomerites?

No Syntax was flaming in his other thread.
Shroomery posts come up on a Shpongle search.
Posford is certainly aware of this site if not a member.

That's like a super-dumb post that doesn't belong in this thread.
Besides the fact that you made a comment that belonged, as you said, to another thread made by the OP, you assume that, since Posford might be reading this forum, we must be careful not to insult him.

OP, what's the difference in the actual quality of the music, if it's being "processed", or a little bit more "melodic"?
Everyone has their own idea about how music sounds better, and this is how, in Shpongle's opinion, music sounds best. I actually find it great that they can put all those sounds together like that, and make them sound so good, while still maintaining their individuality.
Normally I wouldn't object to a post that's only about tastes, but you really made a reasoning mistake when you said the songs aren't memorable for themselves, but for their processing. What's the difference? Processing, just like the rhythm, or melody, are aspects of music, hence the music itself.
Making a statement like the one you made, is very similar to other people saying that making a song with a synth piano is of a lower quality than making a song with a traditional piano, since with a synth you have a bigger versatility of the sound. Of course, people like that don't take to account the fact that, any sound, as tweaked and modeled as it might be by an artist, is still just as real and that it already exists in the creative imagination of the artist.

For fuck's sake, that's not what I meant. I just said he's around, there are a few threads where I state my opinion that Shpongle is way over-mentioned. :fishgun:

No if Middleman thought that the whole thread about the leak would have surely been locked. I, along with others, posted multiple times about what an idiot and baby Posford was being on the Twisted forums.

Right, 'flaming' is personal criticism of members not has-been psy artists. :archiebunker:
