Spore prints will go a long way toward identifying them. Since you know enough to guess they might be Galerinas you probably know enough to not eat them, at least not until you're sure about what they are.

Please let us know about spore print colors, and try writing up a description of the things we can't guess from the photos (smell, for example).

phreedom,

Don't bother taking a spore print.
Those are Galerinas.

Sorry!

That spore print would tend to confirm that they are Galerinas. Unfortunately, Galerinas are pretty much impossible to identify to species without a microscope. Roadkill has it.

For future reference, the professionals recommend that you should not taste mushrooms such as Galerinas or deadly Amanitas. You won't be poisoned by a single tasting such as you've done, but there haven't been studies on long term effects of small amounts of amatoxins/phallotoxins.

One other tip for future descriptions. Another important character is the feel of the surface of the cap and stem (dry, moist, sticky, slimy). There are a lot of mushrooms where we can't even begin to ID to species without that information.

Nice photos and description. Excellent find.

thanks again for the info.

once again, i feel the need to buy a microscope and put myself back in the poor house. :smirk:

i was going to buy one too, but a buddy of mine has a little 600x (?) mag thing that looks like a pen he got at radio shack some time back. i checked it out and it lets you get a real close up look at spores without putting out a bunch...

im going to check into getting one, then ill post pictures of it and the results...he said he only paid like 30.00 for it.
