Could be! But you know, my friend uses tap water too! Come to think of it, he has a well! With a water softner attached to it! (he lives in Florida where the aquafer is like, two feet down) Keep tryin' though, the shrooms will eventually teach you how to grow them.

I have heard not to use 'softenend water' because of salt content..I only use natural water in my cultures(pond or lake h20), hasn't failed yet..knock,knock, on that wood!
