Here you can see why pasteurization (composting) of substrate is done at commercial Agaricus sp. farms.
On the one end, the process of pasteurization kills of contaminative micro organisms, to provide a concurrence clean substrate for the mushroom you want to grow, while, on the other hand, provides good condition for thermophile microorganisms, that benefit a composting of substrate, which again, benefits the mushrooms growth.

Alright, again fahkface, thanks a ton, I just spawned my popcorn to coir like....... 5 minutes ago. I covered it but I don't have any micopore tape so I didn't put holes in it. Is that ok? I also just dumped that tub right out, it kept at good humidity but F even risking it if it will raise the contam rate( I don't know why I didn't think of it) . I will check back in as always within a few days and update with pics as soon as I start to see growth. Lastly, I have one more question. I don't patch with bulk right? Just let the mycelium completely colonize the bulk and then uncover, move to the fruiting chamber, keep humidity at 90-95% humidity temp at 72-75 , and provide 12-12 day/ night cycle with uv florescenr? I think that's what I've gathered. Correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am. Thanks again man. Alot. Everyone who's posted n helped. Thank you.

ok, i have six trays of bulk that are about 50% colonized but in preparation i have set up my shotgun terrarium, i have set all the specs correctly according to RR video on how to build one(to the T) and ive run into a problem. My fruiting chamber will not get above 80-85% humidity and ive even taped up 75% of the holes......my house has a relative humidity of only about 25% due to gas heat through floor vents. im trying to buy a humidifier but its not something to come by easy in the winter. plus im a little short on cash........are their any tips anyone has to help me with this dilemna? if not i may tape all the holes and leave the perlite in the bottom and just resort to fanning 3-4 times and Hour.........DAMN!. so please........any suggestions? roger? Fahkface? Agar? Shea? Anyone? Thanks

it was the hygrometer, it maxes out at 85% wrapped in a WET towel for an hour. i even threw it IN water and it still said 85, so i went and got another and its reading on 90-92%.......is that suitable?

Well, the only thing the calibration does is rotate the coil on the scale.
So you should be able to open it up and manually adjust it, or remark/relabel the scale.

Also, there are a few brf cakes that are 100% and have been left in 1/2 pint jars for 7 days, then were moved to the fruiting chamber. B+, humidity at 95% , shotgun terrarium, fanned about four times a day and misted 2 times daily to rehydrate, they have been in the FC for 4 days no with no signs of pinning. Anything else I can do other than just wait?
