I have been reading on the heakth issue concern with growing mushrooms. They say that once you grow mushrooms that you are inviting all sorts of bacteria into your home that are hazardous to our health.. This concerns me as i have a small child. Is it really that bad? I mean i know that there are alot of scare tactics used by our friend uncle sam but from you growers point of view is it really that bad.. Do you peeps feel sicker than before, etc..?
Just want to make sure before diving into this!

Be concerned...Green Mold, and many other are not something you want to come into direct contact with.

well if you think about it you are. when one of your jars gets a contam, thats colonized bacteria that could be harmful. but, if its contaminated just don't open it and you shouldnt have a problem. then again bacteria is a tricky son of a gun, i would say there is an increased risk, but i wouldnt be too concerned. i would keep small ones away from the area where the shrooms are, that goes without saying though im sure .

what about spraying like lysol around the house, and other bateria killers? Also I guess with proper teaching i would be able to just trow away contaminated jars if i would suspect bacteria instead of trying to re-use...
what are some of you peeps doing for protection?

Remove contaminated anything as quick as possible and invest in lysol stock.

You don?t really invite any new germs into your house, it?s just that if you don?t work clean enough, the germs that are already present in your house become more clearly visible since they colonize your substrate.
Work clean, follow the sanitation and sterilization procedures, and you should do ok.

on a small scale, it's no worse than a green loaf of bread.. you just throw it away...
On a LARGE scale in wich you might have 100 lbs of poop growing mushrooms, well then yes, you might have to move out of your house if things go bad.....
get the picture!!

Closet would most likely be a better choice in terms of possible contaminants.
