Probems getting brf cakes to pin
    #1177623 - 12/29/02 01:36 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Ok, heres the deal.. I have about 9 cakes in my terrarium and they've been in there about 2 weeks. Originally I had some fuzzy myc (rhizomorph?) growing on the cakes, which was fine, and eventually I had 2 shrooms grow that I've since harvested. However, nothing else seems to be growing. I have observed tiny hyphal knots on most of the cakes, but that was about 5 days ago and still no noticeble growth. Last batch I grew was similar, about 10-12 muhsrooms off 10 cakes, and I thought it was just back luck and I'd start over on this batch. So far we seem to be shaping up the same way. Now on this batch I've been lazy, only fanning the terrarium once or twice every two days. My rationalization for this is that fanning is just to remove stagnant air and prevent mold from growing, and that 1-2 times every couple of days should be sufficient air exchange for 9 cakes. Is this my problem perhaps? Humidity seems fine, water build up on the walls and terrarium cover is present. Temperature is between 70-75, and I've been giving them about 6-8 hours of indirect sunlight, and an additional 3-4 indirect room lighting. On a side note, I've started 2 casings, hopefully that result will be larger, but does anone have any suggestions or tips to try that might help get these little guys going?! As always, thanks for the help.

J.

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely get off my lazy ass and fan more often.. I just have a hard time believing that  9 cakes can produce enough co2 to effect the volume of air  a 10 gallon aquarium can hold over a 2 day period. Either way, I'll be fanning more and if that helps, I thank you for insight!!

i fan quite a bit (6-8 times a day) use perlite and a 2 liter bottle with perlite, water and a air line stuffed in it and the extra air line stuck in a hole to blow fresh air in and holes in the bottom for C02 to come out. i give em 4 hours of light. they like it so far.... birthed, shocked and dunked nine days ago. Oh, and this is a one pint BRF cake
