Best way to fruit trays (with no electricity)
    #11708170 - 12/23/09 07:17 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

So I'm trying to find some of the best ways to fruit 6qt trays. As the title says no electricity so I'm guessing Martha's are out of the question. Are a few shotgun FC's the way to go in my situation? Please discuss.

Couple shotguns or mini monos should do the trick. As long as temp, humidity and FAE are good. Indirect sunlight should do for lighting.

I've seen 6qt tubs put sideways in a larger tub and fruited like a monotub. Or a make a mini mono.

Dude, you need to pay your electric bill. It's December, it's going to get freaking cold soon.

I live pretty far from any electricity lines, so I chop firewood for heat. It has been very cold lately!

You could. Sure, why not? Might or might not be easier/more efficient than several shotguns or mini monos, though.
What about harvesting wind power or something?

Actually I got a nice 10k wind gen just got shipped in. I'm building the foundation for it right now. Weather is hitting so it wont be done till march/april I'm thinking.

I do run a gas generator for only a few hours a day, I don't have gas to run it 24/7. Also I use wireless internet with booster antenna

grow monotubs and perhaps try running off of some decent charged up car batteries for light/humidity/air. I would assume one would need at least 4+ or use solar batteries, but they are $$$$$$

monotubs. but if you burn wood for heat and you have no constant source of electricty, your house is probably really dry, which could create problems.

also: can i come live with you?

My first two mono's got the mean green before first flush and my third mono just stopped colonizing at 40%. I kinda gave up on them for a while. I recently did my first tray and was very pleased with the results. So for me right now, trays it is. I was going to do a shit load of SG's but that would take up way too much space(my castle is only so big), So I'm going to order a Martha. I'm guessing I'll have to mist/fan it quite often, and I could leave the door cracked open for FAE. Wish me luck!

Citizen13, It's very nice living like this, indeed it is.

My FOAF uses no electricity at all.

I assume you are doing this for yourself? if so, there really is no need to go nuts on your setup. My FOAF simply cases in those foil trays you can get at the dollar store and sticks them in a sweater box.

I think he uses something like this if not this exactly.

Fans when he gets up, and before bed.

Done.
