My mind is stained with this thought.
    #1176987 - 12/29/02 10:58 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Humanity is cancer, and by being human you are just a cell in a tumor. Earth is infected with you, you will suffocate and destroy it without even realizing it. You will be your own unmaking. You're going to kill yourself, and everyone around you. You will not realize you are doing it, until it is too late.

Can anyone help me get out of this wicked thought-loop. I'm kind of depressed right now. I've been having severe anxiety for the past couple weeks.

Even if that's true, then we'd still just be serving a purpose. Just as cancer serves a purpose

People die
Species die
Planets die
Life goes on
Get used to it

Yeah, I'm really starting to agree with my friend that humanity's purpose was to fuck up, and that humanity is actually a disease. That's cool, I guess. It's just hard to break out of this thought-loop of hopelessness. I do occasionally, but my mind keeps somehow coming back.

I don't think humanity is inherantly a cancer. We've just decided to play cancer on this stage of existance. As it stands right now though, yes we are cancer.

Very good point, Learyfan. I've thought this too, there were different paths that humanity could have chose to go down. Humanity just decided to dig a hole too deep and too steep to climb out of, humanity chose the wrong path.

Well, I don't know if that helped you. But I swear I was stuck there for a long time.

I just had to accept that yes, there is evil, and I've come to believe that witnessing the evil in this world, and hating it, will learn me for all eternity the wisdom of obeying God.

It's a natural process...I believe...

Yes, carbonhoots. I realize my lacking in faith, I guess I do need some sort of religious beliefs. I guess I'm kind of agnostic right now. I really have no idea where to start, I do like the ideas of Buddhism, though. Maybe I should get a book about Buddhism and read it, anyone have any recommendations or anything?

Humans wont get very far untill they start truely caring about each other.

I am optimistic. I'm optimistic that we might just be able to hold out untill this is corrected (genetically, perhaps?). Sadly, As of now, love of the greater number is but an individual trait.

What does religion have to do with 'overcoming' this? Escaping reality with opiates doesn't usually solve much.

I think humanity's story has been one of desperation. Earlier humans didn't know what evils lived in the rest of the world, so they needed to gather as much property as possible and protect it at all costs, so it wasn't stolen by other people. Pretty natural actually, like little kids wanting all the toys. People don't WANT bad things, we're just too ignorant and greedy most of the time and cause bad things to happen.

I know how you feel Aaladorn, and you have good reason to feel that way.

My counter attack is to learn as much as I can of my environment and embrace what makes me feel happy. And the next step is to try and inspire others to do the same. That's my contribution to help cure this 'cancer'. I think just being generally aware of yourself and your world is significant.

Do you honestly believe that religion will bring goodness to the world? Religion has been and is the source of much of the evil in the world. Religion has killed more people than anything else.

Besides, if people need the threat of eternal damnation to be good to one another, then we are indeed a selfish and horrible species.

Indeed. Religion creates the illusion of evil. Without it we might actually have to base our lives on facts, and form our own opinions. God forbid!

so you are gonna go religion shopping and choose one which suits you best? in my opinion, this is taking a step backwards, do what you like.

It's more logical than having your belief structure (religion) chosen for you when you're born.

Some humans can act as a virus... but our basic nature is more closely related to a bacteria I think. Some bacteria benefit the things around them, and others are harmful; (bacteria are the chief cause of infectious diseases in humans.)

But I wouldn't classify all of humanity as a virus... It is possible to live in harmony with the environment, and actually help it along rather than destroy it.

The only infection I see is denial of light and love, the clinging on to of fear and rules, the allowance of darkness.. violence.... power over others.. crimes against free will. Human is a divine being inside a body and tossed into the physical world to learn. We create our own reality. You CHOOSE to live in a fear based mode of thinking. You can also CHOOSE to live centered in love. This will change your perceptual focus of the external world.

You guys really give humanity more credit then deserved, sure overall we have hurt the earth, but we arnt exsactly living in a dead wasteland. You know a volcano went off recently (mid 90s i beleive) that put more air pollution in the air then all harmful chemicals we have put in the air in HISTORY. sure we have an effect on things, sure we can make things happen more quickly, but really in the end, I highly doubt we are near powerful enough to kill mother nature. I'm sure she would kill us first.

I disagree, I think humanity is just another part of the world. Our purpose is not to destroy, its to create. What sets us apart is our ego's. It's our ego's that destroy, but have a strong belief that balance will prevail, not matter how evil man can get.
