Drip shield VS Dunking
    #1176124 - 12/28/02 07:56 PM (22 years, 24 days ago)

Ok, in a terrarium...
If water dropping on the mycelium cakes is bad for them (requiring the use of a drip shield to steer water droplets away from above your mushrooms.) Then why doesn't dunking them under water for 12-24 hours hurt them?

Well the cakes recover from the dunk before they are ready to fruit.
I dont think your cakes will have problems without a drip shield. If condensation is a problem on the lid then try laying a heating pad on low over it, or just use a drip shield

It has more to do with water dripping down on the pins and mushrooms while they are fruiting than the cake itself.

So then it's the mushrooms that are harmed from water dropping, not the mycelium.

Droplets seal the casing surface and make the conditions less favorable for the mushroom formation, and droplets on larger mushrooms can cause it to rot.

i faced this problem a few weeks ago. If the water drops fall on the pins, they rot:-(
