Could a Q-Tip hold a sporeprint?
    #1175947 - 12/28/02 06:22 PM (22 years, 24 days ago)

I was trying to make a print on foil.I covered the printing caps with a drinking glass and left alone for a day.I have tried paper, card stock, and packing tape. The prints never stick, and the few that looked the best always would be contaminated or just not grow.I started cleaning everything that i could think of that would keep contams away. The first thing was to clean the cap with alcohol. As soon as the swab touched the cap i could see spores sticking to it.I thought why could'nt a Q-Tip,in foil,be put in a pressure cooker? A Q-Tip could be pulled out of the foil, wipe the basidiocarp, then put back in foil. All in a hepa flitered glovebox. Then i thought to take the Q-Tip with spores and dip the dark end in a honey water jar.Has anyone tried this?

You cant put spores in the PC they'll die. But if you put a cotton swab with spores on it into hone water it will start to clonize.

That sounds really good but if you have'nt done it don't act like you know. This forum is filled with ideas from people who think the know but have'nt really done what they say.

sounds like a pretty good idea, how about just soaking the q-tip in alcohol and then letting it air dry in a glovebox or jar.

1st wrap a Q-Tip in foil.Next put it in a pressure cooker.I also wrap a few wide mouth lids with no hole punched in them in foil.Put an equal amount of 1/2 pint jars with filtered water, put just foil over each jar.Put all of the stuff in the p.c.30 min should be enough. The Q-Tips won't melt so cook away.Let cool.Pick a mature fruit, try to pick one that does'nt have one growing under it and don't touch the gills.Put in your glove box.Open a Q-Tip and lightly wipe the gills.Try not to touch the edges of the cap.The whole tip can be very dark all around.Put back in the foil, then a bag.Instead of putting it back in foil you can open a water jar and dip the end in it.Open the lids and quickily put on top.
