Truffles on Food Network right now
    #1175135 - 12/28/02 11:50 AM (14 years, 22 days ago)

(Sorry, this is North America-centric...)

The Food Hunter show on Food Network (available in Canada and the US) has a show on truffles today....including showing them being hunted by dog.

Food Network generally repeats its shows, so I'm sure you can catch the episode again in the next few days.

It may look like a button mushroom right now, but wait until you see how it grows!

I've had them a couple times. I can't think of anything the flavor resembles. I think it's best when it's very strong. It sort of dares you to not like it. I know that's not very descriptive, but how would you describe the flavor of morels to somebody who has never had them? Truffles are more unique in flavor than that.

The most interesting way I've eaten them was using them to flavor honey and drizzling some over slices of pear. The flavor is almost overpowering that way. I could still taste them a bit for a hour or two.

Happy mushrooming!
