just wanted to share the joy
about 2 months ago i knocked up 12 1/2 pint jars pf style but substituted brf for RGF... all but 1 contaminated
the one that didnt colonized 75% or so and stoped and instead of injecting more water I decided to scrape away the uncolonized substrait and put the colonized parts into a ziplock baggy for 3 days.
the started to case
1/2 in. verm layer on the bottom and 2/3in. layer perlite on top
after a week in my incubator(AKA underneath my water bed hehe)
this is what it looks like
I couldnt believe how long it took for colonization.. could it have been the rye grain flour?
or just the way I prepared everything
I mean I inoculated some loosly packed brf jars with a brazilian strain and under 2 weeks ago and they are about 100%
all of them
no contams up to this point
well enough of my chatter here are the pics
they are a lil blurry due to the shitty digy

yes and no
I say what I mean cause I mean what I say
perlite on the bottm of the chamber for RH
verm on the bottom of the tray then colonized cake crumbles and then perlite on top of the cake crumbles

Why perlite on top?  You seemed to have used perlite as a casing.  Sorry If I've got mixed up (lol - my name)  perlite is no good for casing coz it won't retain water well.  But I stand to be corrected in "case"  i'm being a fuck wit

Answer me damn it.  If that grows through the perlite and fruits than i'll eat a bale of peat moss

Perlite is not a good casing medium unless put below the substrate.

well I would have used verm for a casing but... i ran out after putting some on the bottom
I remember seeing a tek somewhere that used perlite as a casing as soon as I find the link again I will post
and yes it is growing through it faster than i have seen it go through verm
but not as good as 50/50
i will keep this up dated
this morning I woke up to a feild of spikes
hopefully this works
if not oh well i will just have to find somewhere that'll send to GA for a b+ print

today I noticed a little bit of bruising on the casing in a couple of spots
could it possibly be from the h2o2 solution i am using or could it be too dry?
it has perlite on the bottom of the chamber and chamber walls are moist
possibly too much water?
RH reads 99% but.. I am not sure on its quality i think tonight I will do a salt rh test on it and post results tomorrow
any suggestions on what may be the cause would be gladly appreciated
and yes i am sure it is bruising unless some sort of blue contam?

Too much humidity for a casing. I bet water is forming on ceiling and dropping on mycelium causing bruising.

you ready to eat up??  :tongue:lol j/k
I got my first pins yesterday not many but a few
I will post pics later tonight
I figure the reason I only got a few is cause I only had about a 1/4 pint to case
I am mainly just looking for a couple of prints to inoc another set of jar
reason... like I said the last batch was all contamed except one jar and that one jar had majorly stalled growth
this time I will use brf instead of rgf see if any difference is present

What do you use as a fruiting chamber?

a clear 4liter rubermade that has a white top that has a valley in it when upside down(the whole thing is just turned upside down)
about 1.5inches os moist perlite on the bottom
a nifty little hydrometer/temp gauge that i found outside a quikimart
and a desk lamp for light
to fan I simply remove the lid(clear part) twice a day and set it down for like 10 min since co2 is heavier than o2
mainly so i dont spread the air around too much( as you can tell by the first post I have had few prob with contamination) I figure this gives good air exchange
oh yea light 12 dark 12
