alternative for micropore tape, and substrate ingredients.

I've being reading people mention gas exchange as an issue in the colonization stage, but The videos I saw didn't mention it. Do I have to make holes in the colonization jar?
Is masking take a good alternative to micropore tape?

also, the substrate I made was following a recipe the guy I bought the spores from e-mailed me, but then, all the recipes I've read use more rice. The one I used is 125 ml of vermiculite, 30 ml of rice flour, 50 ml of water.
is this a good enough substrate? because some videos recommend 1 cup of water, 1 of rice, and 2 of vermiculite.

If it was, wouldn't we all say "use masking tape"? Go get micropore tape.

Micropore tape can be bought at basically any store that has a first aid section. It's just like masking tape, only it "breathes." See CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, any grocery store, ect. It's like 2-3 bucks.

The scientific picture of the world around me is very deficient. It gives me a lot of factual information, puts all of our experience in a magnificently consistent order, but is ghastly silent about all that really matters to us. It cannot tell a word about the sensation of red and blue, bitter and sweet, feelings of delight and sorrow. It knows nothing of beauty and ugly, good or bad, God and eternity. Science sometimes pretends to answer questions in these domains, but the answers are very often so silly that we are not inclined to take them seriously.
