how often do i mist shotgun fc?
    #11747344 - 01/01/10 10:24 AM (15 years, 19 days ago)

ive been searching the shroomery for days looking for an answer but i keep getting mixed results.
so as a result ive been misting it about 3 times daily and fanning it 3 times daily as well (as soon as im done misting ) is this fine?

currently in my fc i only have casings and i read those need a lower humidity than cakes.
suggestions appreciated.

usu.

Mist as needed to maintain moisture and humidity.

That's no quite right. Casings can handle a lower humidity, but mushroom fruit bodies still prefer near 100% humidity for good development.

If you have casings in trays inside the shotgun, I would recommend getting a rack and raising them off the perlite. This increased the area from where water can evaporate to humidify the FC.

any house hold items i could use as a rack?

and i dont have a hygrometer so i have no idea what the exact percentage of humidity there is in the fc

Less space in the FC will improve humidity and encourage knotting.

Well, go look around. We don't know what's in your house. Most people have racks of various kinds- maybe you do too. :justdontknow:

The most common household rack would probably be a pie cooling rack, usually 8" across, usually round, often found in the kitchen area of thrift stores. If the container is sturdy you could just use some equally sized objects as feet without a rack tho, like a few baby food jars to raise up a tray, sorta thing. Be inventive.

Just an Idea.....I used PVC pipe, and a trimmed plastic grating(Used for office lights)

I ran the PVC through, then used some chopsticks as dowels on the ends to keep them from shifting.......I trimmed the lighting grate to fit perfect in the tub......Only cost me like $8 and is really nice.........

I got the Idea from Uncle_Rico...(thanks man)
