Some begginer questions

I am planning to start cultivating mostly for my own use and there are a few questions that I have.

As I don't want to leave my fruiting chamber out I plan on keeping it either in a closet or my crawlspace. I am wondering how much lighting the 10 gallon aquarium fruiting chamber is going to need, and if it has to be a special flourescent light. I have a light from my old fish tank that fits directly over 10 gallon aquarium... so I am wodnering if that will work.

Also if I was to hook a timer up to the light how much light should I give it each day?

Thanks for the responce, I've read through many growing manuals and FAQ's and these are questions I would like based upon experience. I can hardly wait to eat my first home cultivated mushrooms :laugh:

it dosnt matter what kind of light it is. 1-2 hours a day is plenty. some people say only 15minutes is needed. you choose.

Any flourescent will do and they only need 2 hours a day. Just don't keep the cakes too close to the light. Keep them a lot more than 4 feet away.
