no the holes in the coffee filter are way to big tyvek has a tighter woven mesh that filters out contams better

Polyfil is available 24/7. Tyvek is almost that abundant too. There's lots of sources for tyvek, including envelopes from office supply stores.

Polyfil is pillow stuffing, some people have sacrificed a stuffed animal. But you can buy a big bag for about $5. Or get a tyvek painters suit for about $10.

A Coffee filter will not work.
The math does not and will not add up.
the average coffee filter pore size is 5 to 100 microns and Most fungal spores range from 1 to 100 microns in size with many types between 2 and 20 microns. Bacteria range in size from 0.1 to 15 micron, with some " giants "that may reach half a millimeter.
Its like trying to stop ping-pong balls with a volleyball net.

also some people on ebay sell tyvek in 1 foot by 9 foot pieces for drop tarps for tents that wont kill the grass. 1 foot is more then enough for a while.

drill a hole in the lid, stuff the polyfill through the hole.
inject through the polyfill if you want, or for a cleaner injection site, add a self healing injection port by drilling another hole and covering it with a layer of RTV or Silicone on the top and bottom of the lid.
