I have had simmilar growths before and i believe they are deformed mushrooms I wouldnt suggest eating them bnut you probably could however the rest of the fruits on that cake should be fine assuming you dont get any funny colors on it. I believe growths like this are often from exposure to cleaning chemicals (bleach, lysol) at least that is one of the possibilities and like i said i have ate fruits from cakes like those with no negative consequences

They look like mutant knots to me. You should be fine, unless they start changing color.

btw the temp these are growing in is in the 60's shouldn't be a problem ? with no direct light at all, just the light from when i turn on the light to the room and i opened up the blinds and it gets alittle indirect sunlight.

I you can get your hands on a reptile heating pad with a thermostat that would be optimal for keeping a solid and warm temp... but on the bright side in my experience mushrooms cultivated at lower temps grow slower and seem to me to be more potent
anyone else ever notice this?

Directly heating your FC is not recommended. It causes major temperature differences between the air in your FC and the walls of the FC, which can cause condensation and other issues. Heat the whole room if possible.

I do agree that shrooms grown at a lower temp do seem to be a bit more potent. Personally, I thinks it's because they also tend to be a bit more dense, so less of the mushroom is water.

Those mutants are perfectly fine, possibly even hella potent.

Dunno man. What's new in the environment? And can we get pics of the splitting caps?

because that's where the conditions are optimal.

your cakes look good though. you've got a few mutants it looks like but that's no biggie. keep it up

Is there water in the perlite? In the pics, it looks like it's full of water.

i didn't fill it up with water before i put the cake in there, however i did wet the perlite alittle before putting the cake on there, and the cake is sitting on its lid hehe.

Ok, so that's not standing water?
Is that a shotgun FC? In the sense of having holes drilled all the way around all six sides?
In other words, where the perlite is too?

na theres no puddles of water just damp perlite, its just a regular 10 gal fish tank with a lid (wire mesh lid) i have suran wrap covering the lid so its bascially air tight but i fan alot maybe once every 2 hours or so.

the vermiculite is the catalyst for the pins... If you want to optimize your number of fruits per cake than I would suggest sterilizing some vermiculite in a pie pan in the oven at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes take it out let is cool and either spray your cakes with water and roll them in vermiculite to leave a thin coating on the outside or what I do is put a small bed for each cake and then a small handfull of moist vermiculite in the top of the cake and when I fan and spray I keep the pile of verm moist as well.

If you are fanning every 2 hours it is overkill and you may find it easier to maintain steady tempatures, moisture levels, and co2 to oxygen ratios if you cut back to 2-3 times daily

do a search on cake dunking to see how to optimize your second flush from these guys... they look great I was trying to give you the answers you seek in spite of your success great job!

thanks for the good response, i know about the dunking for the 2nd flush , you did answer a question i was wondering for awhile, every time i see someones cake its coated in vermiculite i been wondering why since i didn't see nothing about it the first time i grew awhile back, so now i know i have 6 more cakes that's been waiting on colonize for awhile now but there almost done some in Vito pins but its alright, but for them i will coat the cakes with some vermiculite the next ones thanks
